New album London Undersound (POSITIVIDCD001)
Released Monday 13th October 2008 on POSITIV-ID

Everyday is full of representations - from politicians, the media and the power of rumour. From bizarre justifications for war to issues of race, nationality, religion and cultural identity, we are saturated constantly with information and second hand opinion.

On 7/7/2005 a bomb exploded on a London bus. A singer and friend of mine, Natty, was there. Two weeks later he was present at the shooting of a Brazillian man – Jean Charles De Menezes.

Last year we wrote a song together.

Natty, like myself, feels something indefinable has shifted.

London’s heartbeat has changed.

Within that heartbeat there lies a feeling, a collective consciousness, the uniting hum of disparate voices waiting to be heard …

A sound.

This is a collection of thoughts, ideas, feelings and catharsis in a city of immense diversity, imagination and beliefs. Featuring a whole range of artists, some less known, some celebrated, this music attempts to capture a zeitgeist and common humanity that pervades superficial divides. Featuring performances from Natty, Reena Bhardwaj, Ojos de Brujo, Anoushka Shankar, Rox, Tina Grace, Aruba Red, Imogen Heap, Faheem Mazhar and Paul McCartney with specially contributed artwork from Antony Gormley, this is an album of collaboration …. to capture the London I know.

Katy Perry drinking problem

Katy Perry has revealed she had a drinking problem.

The 'I Kissed a Girl’ singer – who is dating Gym Class Heroes star Travis McCoy - admits she turned to alcohol while waiting for her big musical break.

She told Blender magazine: 'It was really difficult, drinking became a problem. It got out of control until I said, 'OK - back to work.’ I know I'm speaking for someone, even if it is someone silly.'

Katy, 23, recently revealed she finds it difficult to attend high profile events without a drink in her hand.

After being named the host of the upcoming MTV Europe Music Awards, she said: 'I was so excited when I heard that I was nominated for two awards, but when I was asked to host the show I wet myself, Fergie-style!

"Do they know what they are getting into? I just hope that I don't spill my cocktail!'

The MTV Europe Music Awards take place in Liverpool, UK, on November 6.

Mark Wahlberg to marry Rhea Durham next year

Mark Wahlberg will marry his long-term girlfriend Rhea Durham next August.

The 37-year-old heartthrob – who has three children, four-year-old Ella, two-year-old Michael and one-month-old Brendan Joseph, with Rhea – confirmed the pair will tie the knot in an intimate ceremony next summer.

Mark - who was in Los Angeles last night (13.10.08) at the premiere of his new movie 'Max Payne’ - said: 'We're talking about getting married in August. It's a good month."

Earlier this year, Mark hinted he was finally ready to tie the knot by referring to Rhea as his "future wife" while talking about his birthday celebrations on June 5.

He said: "I had a beautiful day with my kids and my future wife. We went to brunch."
Mark also revealed recently daughter Ella was 'extremely disappointed' when she found she would soon have a baby brother, adding: 'Ella already had all these plans of dressing a little sister up in clothes. But I told her, 'Honey, that means you'll be more spoiled than the boys.' She goes, 'Oh, daddy, I didn't think of that!' "

Mel C gets Victoria Beckham to plan wedding

Mel C has asked her former Spice Girls bandmate Victoria Beckham to plan her wedding.

Pregnant Mel announced her engagement to boyfriend of six years, Thomas Starr last month and the couple are set to wed in July 2009.

A source told Britain’s Daily Star newspaper: 'Mel and Victoria have become very close since the Spice Girls reunited last year. And she knows that Victoria has the contacts and the ideas to make her big day extra special.'

Victoria, 34, has a good track record with high-profile weddings. She previously offered her advice to actress Katie Holmes, who married Tom Cruise in 2006, and Girls Aloud star Cheryl Cole who wed soccer player Ashley Cole the same year.

Victoria has already made inquiries at St Peter’s church, near Liverpool, where Mel – full name Melanie Chisholme – comes from.

She is also said to have asked her fashion designer friend Roberto Cavalli to design the wedding gown.

Mel’s other former bandmates – Emma Bunton, Mel B and Geri Halliwell – are also keen to get involved with the wedding.

The source added: 'They’re all keen to offer advice and assistance. But Mel doesn’t feel close enough to the band to ask them to be bridesmaids or maids of honour.

'So she and Victoria have decided all the girls should be invited as guests, rather than giving them special roles.'

Mel is expected to give birth in March.

Pink proposed Carey Hart because he was "incredible" in bed

Pink proposed to Carey Hart because he was "incredible" in bed.

The 'So What' singer - who memorably held up a sign saying 'Will You Marry Me?' as motocross rider Carey completed a race in 2005 - says it was her estranged husband's sexual prowess which convinced her she wanted to tie the knot.

She said: "The energy between me and Carey is palpable. It will always be that way. It's like two alphas in a room who just want to rip each other's clothes off. He is incredible in the bedroom too. I think that's why I proposed!"

Pink also revealed why she decided to cast Carey in the music video for her new single 'So What', in which she blasts the institute of marriage.

She added to Look magazine: "'So What' is a send-up. I told him he wasn't going to like it, but he just laughed because he knows me and loves me. And I love him. We are friends whether we are married or not. Our relationship wasn't conventional."

Eminem and Dre return for 50 Cent

50 Cent has become the bridge to the new Eminem activity with the superstar rapper appearing on his new album.

'Before I Self Destruct’ is the 4th album from 50 Cent and features songs produced by Dre and Eminem with Eminem also guesting on the album.

The new album also acts as the soundtrack to a new 50 Cent movie with Fiddy making his directorial debut.

The 90-minute movie was written, directed and stars 50 Cent. It is a coming of age story of an inner city youth raised by a hardworking mother. When he fails to become a basketball star, he finds himself working in a supermarket. His mother is gunned down and Clarence (played by Fiddy) moves into a life of crime.

"My film captures the harsh realities that reflect so many communities today. There will be some who will greatly identify with the characters and the situations presented and then there will be others who may be shocked at the struggles that go on in the inner city," states 50 Cent. "I made the film for both groups."

The movie and album will be released in December.

George Michael to play in Middle East

George Michael is to perform in the Middle East – after recently announcing he had played his final live show.

The 'Careless Whisper’ singer was said to be retiring from performances following the end of his world tour at the end of August, but now he is reportedly set to land £1 million for playing an exclusive concert at Abu Dhabi’s lavish Emirates Palace venue, where tickets are expected to go on sale for around £200.

As well as the massive pay cheque, George, 45, will stay in a luxury suite, which boasts gold leaf and marble decoration, a 61-inch plasma screen television, Swarovski crystal chandeliers and 24-hour butler service.

George performed two concerts in London at the end of August, which were part of his ’25 Live’ tour and billed as 'the Final Two'.

However, he then went on to perform in Copenhagen, Denmark, a few days later, in a show advertised as the 'Final One’. The date for the Abu Dhabi concert has not yet been revealed.

Beastie Boys Get Out and Vote tour

The Beastie Boys are set to encourage U.S. fans to "get out and vote" on 4 November by organising the 'Get Out and Vote tour'. The plucky rappers head out on a short tour with support acts including Sheryl Crow, Jack Johnson and Tenacious D. The gigs are purely urging fans to make the effort to vote in the upcoming Presidential election. In a statement released on Friday they said "This election is too important to stay at home. 'We hope that you can come out, have a nice night, dance, sing, get your freak on, and then wake up the next morning and get everyone that you possibly can to get out and vote." But they're not holding back about who they'll be voting for: "We are very excited about Barack Obama. Hope you all feel the same."

Green Day working with Butch Vig

Green Day's follow up to 2004's 'American Idiot' is being produced by 'Nevermind' knob twister Butch Vig.

Ex-Garbage singer Shirley Manson told US chat show Last Call With Carson Daly that the former Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins producer Butch Vig was unable to work on her new album as he was busy working with the California rock stars.

She said: "I don't know, to be honest. We're sort of doing our different things. I'm doing the TV show (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles), Butch is producing Green Day, so he's busy, so we'll see."

The eighth studio album from Green Day was rumoured for a release sometime this year, however only a side-project by the name of Foxboro Hot Tubs - which features all three Green Day members - released a debut record.

It is as yet unclear what role long-time producer Rob Cavallo will have on the new record.

Pink not a 'permanent' lesbian

Pink would never be a 'permanent' lesbian, but admits 'experimenting' with women. The 'So What’ singer – who split from her husband Carey Hart earlier this year - has had flings with women in the past, but would never completely give up men. She said: 'I'm not gay so I guess I would not try a relationship with a woman. I didn't say I haven't experimented but I love men too much to make it a permanent thing.' Pink, 29, recently confessed she hates going on dates because she finds them too pressurised. She said: 'I meet boys all over the place. It's just that I don't ever go on dates. I have never been on a date. I don't believe in that, it has to be organic. A barbecue, a show or whatever. I have never met anybody in a bar.' However, Pink also revealed she has a number of friends who are attempting to persuade her to start dating. She added: "Lately I have been hearing from a lot of people, like married couples, who have met in a bar. I'm always amazed. So maybe that is where I am going wrong."

Vanessa Paradis 'intimidated' by the red carpet

Vanessa Paradis is 'intimidated' by the red carpet. The French singer says she and partner Johnny Depp deliberately shun the showbiz lifestyle and she feels uncomfortable when forced to attend glamorous events or socialise with other celebrities. She admitted: 'The red carpet is not something I really know how to work. It intimidates me. I feel very tiny. 'I don’t have famous neighbours and if I did, I’d avoid them. I don’t live the jet-set. 'I’m really lucky. I do stay in wonderful houses, hotels and that’s amazing but we’re not very sociable at all. We don’t go to parties or premieres.' Vanessa, 35 – who has been dating the 'Pirates of the Caribbean’ star for 10 years – also revealed she isn’t sure she could treat another man as well as she treats Johnny. She added to Elle magazine: 'Maybe I'm a good girlfriend because I'm his girlfriend. I'm not sure I'd be a good girlfriend to anyone else.' Vanessa and Johnny, 44, have two children. Nine-year-old Lily Rose and Jack, six.

Ronnie Wood on spending spree

Ronnie Wood is reportedly spending £10,000 a week, sparking rumours he is deliberately blowing his fortune. Ronnie’s estranged wife Jo reportedly fears the rocker is spending his money 'to spite her', after both she and Ronnie met separately with divorce lawyers last week. The Rolling Stones guitarist – who recently left rehab – has been splashing out on parties for his friends, antiques and his 20-year-old girlfriend Ekaterina Ivanova - whom is blamed for the split between Ronnie and Jo after he ran away with her to Ireland on a drinking binge in July. A friend of Jo’s told Britain’s The Sun newspaper: 'She is at the end of her tether with Ronnie, worried that soon he will have nothing left. And she believes he is spending this money to spite her. 'Life is difficult enough without Ronnie putting pressure on their finances. He is like an infatuated teenager doing everything he can to impress his girlfriend.' Although Ronnie, 61, is estimated to be worth £40 million, his income depends on touring with the Rolling Stones, as he is paid a wage as a touring session musician, rather than receiving royalties for album sales. The source added: 'Ronnie relies heavily on the Stones to be on tour to earn his cash but they are off duty just now and things are tight.' Ronnie’s recent antics could also have thrown plans for a reunion tour with his former band the Faces into jeopardy, by insisting Ekaterina tours with them. Faces frontman Rod Stewart recently told a US crowd: 'Ronnie’s having a little trouble with the drink these days, bless his cotton socks.' The reunion was scheduled to take place in 2009. A source said: 'Ronnie seems head over heels with this young girl. He’s told the Faces boys she’s coming with him. But they’re not happy. They want Ronnie to dedicate 100 per cent. He already has trouble with alcohol. He doesn’t need the added distraction of a girlfriend.'

Grace Jones wants Amy Winehouse collaboration

Grace Jones wants to record a song with Amy Winehouse. The singer – who was honoured with the Q Icon prize at yesterday’s Q Awards (06.10.08) – believes she and Amy are kindred spirits who would work well together. Grace, who is famous for her volatile outbursts, told BANG Showbiz: 'I love Amy Winehouse, she has a wonderful voice. I love what she’s doing, even though she gets slapped down a lot. I’d absolutely love to do a song with her. We’ve both kind of been there, if you know what I mean, there’s a lot of pressure, a lot of eyes on you and there are all kinds of things to deal with. You get everything thrown at you when you’re in the public eye.' Grace, 60, believes Amy will overcome her drink and drug demons and start making great music again. She added: 'I hope she gets stronger from here. I support her, I’d like her to know that. That’s what it’s all about – sex, drugs and rock 'n’ roll! If it don’t kill you, everyone used to tell me this, it’ll make you stronger.' Grace – who arrived at the London awards ceremony dressed in all black, wearing an eye mask with two horns attached with tiny lights on the tips – also joked she was unsure whether to accept the Idol accolade because of her religious background. The Jamaican singer-and-actress – whose father, Robert W. Jones, was an Apostolic clergyman – quipped: 'I’m from a line of Bishops and because of the religion they say, 'There shall be no false idol worshipping.’ I was going to say that during my speech but I’m not sure anyone would have gotten it. But really this is great, it’s like worship me!'

Ashlee Simpson has 'white-trash' themed party

Ashlee Simpson threw a "white-trash" themed birthday party. The pregnant singer, who is married to Fall Out Boy rocker Pete Wentz, celebrated turning 24 with a fancy dress bash at her parents' Los Angeles home last weekend. One guest revealed: "It had a white-trash theme. Ashlee wore Daisy Duke hot-pants and platform flip-flops with a bathing suit and a fake tattoo around her belly." Ashlee's sister Jessica and her father Joe also got into the party spirit by dressing up in "crazy" outfits. Another guest told People magazine: "Joe wore a cut-off muscle T-shirt and a mullet wig. It was funny. Jessica was wearing a crazy leopard-print dress that showed off a lot of cleavage." Revellers included Christina Aguilera, Nicole Richie and her Good Charlotte rocker fiance Joel Madden. Guests were treated to chicken fingers, French fries, corn dogs and macaroni cheese. This isn't the first time Ashlee - who is reportedly due to give birth at the end of the month - has thrown a fancy dress birthday party. Last year, Ashlee asked guests to don prom dresses, fingerless gloves and vintage tuxedos for her 80s prom-themed bash. One friend said: "Ashlee loves throwing themed parties and wearing costumes."

High School musical star death rumour

Zac Efron’s mother was left devastated when she heard a rumour her son had died. The 'High School Musical 3: Senior Year’ star was the victim of an inaccurate story published by a foreign newspaper claiming he had been killed. He said: 'I was really shocked to find out – and my mom was really upset too when I called and told her.' The 20-year-old actor also admits he is not a very good dancer, despite leading many of the set-pieces in all three of the hit Disney films. He added to Britain’s The Sun newspaper: 'I’m definitely not a dancer. I grew up being into sports and I wasn’t trained to move my body in the right way for dancing. 'I’m the last one to get any moves correct. In rehearsals it’s always, 'OK, one more take for Zac.’ ' Zac has previously said he would love to star in a remake of classic musical 'Grease’, which originally starred John Travolta. He said: "If John was involved I'd do it. But without his consent there's no way I could ever attempt a role like that. That's too hard, he's just too cool. He's a stud!"

Jamie Lynn Spears pregnant again

Jamie Lynn Spears is pregnant again, it has been claimed. The 17-year-old star, who gave birth to daughter Maddie Briann in June, was reportedly shocked to discover she is expecting her second child and has been trying to keep it a secret. A source told National Enquirer magazine: 'Jamie Lynn is about eight weeks pregnant, and she and her mom Lynne are hysterical. Neither of them knows what to do, but for now they're trying to keep the news from getting out. 'Jamie Lynn believed she couldn't get pregnant while she was breastfeeding. She'd expected to have her period by early September, but a home pregnancy test came back positive and Jamie Lynn cried her eyes out. 'Lynne was livid when she found out. She told Jamie Lynn that she thought she was smarter than that and she couldn't believe that she hadn't learned her lesson.' It has been claimed the 'Zoey 101’ star’s friends and family are urging her to terminate the pregnancy. Meanwhile, Jamie Lynn has dismissed rumours her fiance Casey Aldridge got Kelli Dawson pregnant after they had an affair. She told America’s OK! magazine: "That is just completely fabricated. He never had an intimate relationship with her, so how would that be possible? Around here, that particular girl is known to make up stories. It hurt me to hear those things. "My family know if I were in a relationship like that, I wouldn't put up with it. They support me, and they support Casey also.'

Sarah Harding talks of Girls Aloud split

Sarah Harding says Girls Aloud only have 'one or two albums' left before they split. The 26-year-old singer admits the band - made up of Sarah, Cheryl Cole, Nadine Coyle, Nicola Roberts and Kimberly Walsh - have accepted their chart success can’t last forever. When asked how much longer the group will stay together, Sarah replied: 'There are still one or two more albums in us.' Sarah – who admits she finds making albums 'stressful' – also revealed she stayed at a separate hotel from her bandmates while they were recording new LP 'Out of Control’. She explained to MTV: 'It takes me a while to get motivated because of my Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and I actually focused a lot more because I didn’t want to stay in London. So I booked myself into a hotel in Surrey and relaxed and got away from it all. It was nice to have that. I was the only one that decided to stay out of London.' However, Sarah insists the band are still committed to pushing boundaries and have adopted a 'retro' feel for their new single 'Promises’. Sarah said: 'We’ve signed a new contract and it’s all looking rosy. 'I like the 60s vibe and the retro thing is coming back! We wanted to stay upbeat but try something a bit different and advanced. I don’t think anything we’ve ever done has ever sounded the same. But we have that same vibe whatever we do because of our vocals.'

Katy Perry claims her mum dated Jimi Hendrix

Katy Perry’s claims her mother once dated Jimi Hendrix and her father dealt drugs. The 'I Kissed a Girl’ singer – who was raised as a strict Christian by her parents Mary and Keith, who are preachers in California – has revealed her parents are not as squeaky clean as it seems, adding they were 'wild' in their youth. She said: 'In terms of wild youth, they put me to shame.' The 23-year-old singer explained her mother grew up in Southern California but became bored of her life and ran away to see the world, resulting in a rocky first marriage in Zimbabwe. Katy added Mary dated rock legend Jimi while she was in Spain, saying: 'He just came up to her in a club and picked her out.' The star also revealed her father was a hippy when he was growing up in the 60s and was close friends with Timothy Leary, who championed psychedelic drug LSD. Katy claims her dad used to supply others with the drug, and specialised in providing a type called Strawberry Fields - named after The Beatles track of the same name. She added to Blender magazine: 'I started spending Sunday mornings crying and hung over, because crying is what you do when you’re hung over. So my dad started telling me about when he was my age. 'My dad would have died from one tab of Strawberry Fields too many if he hadn’t found God.' Earlier this year, Katy’s mother branded her song 'I Kissed a Girl’ 'shameful and disgusting' and said she was 'disappointed' her daughter was promoting homosexuality. Mary said: 'I can't even listen to that song. The first time I heard it I was in total shock. It promotes homosexuality and its message is shameful and disgusting. When it comes on the radio I bow my head and pray.'

Noel Gallagher is set to go on a road trip to Mexico with Ricky Hatton. The Oasis guitarist and the boxing champ will travel from Las Vegas to the South American country after Ricky’s bout with Paul Malignaggi on November 22. Noel said: 'I’m going to carry the belt into the ring for Ricky. He told me to hang it over my shoulder but I’ll be holding it up over my head, marching. 'We’re going to do a road trip to the Oasis show in Mexico after. It’ll be a proper smash-up.' Earlier this week, Ricky introduced Oasis on stage at the first show of their UK tour – and threatened to knock out anyone who attempted to crash the stage, just as one over-excited reveller had in Canada. Meanwhile, it seems Noel is looking forward to leaving the UK after branding the nation a 's**thole' in a foreign TV rant. He said: 'England isn’t that f***ing great. To live here is a f***ing s**thole to be honest. People have this romantic image of England. London is a f***ing dump.'

The 27-year-old beauty says her young child is already exhibiting characteristics of both her parents. Nicole added: "Harlow's a delicate soul. She studies people. She's very coy. People say that she and I make the same expressions. But everyone says she looks like Joel." The couple also admitted they are considering extending their brood. Joel told People magazine: "If it could be as easy as Harlow, then sure we will have more kids."
